CRIPSiE Executive Director

Job Description and Posting

 

About the Organization

CRIPSiE (The Collaborative Radically Integrated Performers Society in Edmonton) is an Edmonton-based integrated performance company that include people who experience disability and their allies. We challenge dominant stories of disability and other forms of oppression through high-quality crip and mad performance art, video art, as well as public education and outreach programs.

 

About the Role

CRIPSiE is seeking an organized, driven arts worker to lead the next chapter of our organization’s work alongside our team. The Executive Director will guide the long-term planning, budgeting, and staff/contract management and overall project management of CRIPSiE activities. 

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Financial management

    • Developing season budgets in consultation with artistic staff and the board of directors;

    • Following CRIPSiE’s financial transparency and bookkeeping process in collaboration with the board treasurer; and

    • Growing and stewarding CRIPSiE’s donation, sponsorship, and ticket revenue.
       

  • Grant writing and reporting

    • Managing CRIPSiE’s project grants calendar and identifying new grant opportunities;

    • Developing applications alongside artistic staff and the board of directors; and

    • Ensuring grant delivery, reporting, and acknowledgment requirements are completed in a timely manner.
       

  • Staff and project management

    • Overseeing responsibilities of other CRIPSiE staff and contractors to ensure projects fit with values and mandate, are delivered on time and within the season budget;

    • Facilitating communication between CRIPSiE staff, members, partners, and board directors; and

    • With the Operations Manager, building and executing agreements with partners, artists, and staff that empower successful work in CRIPSiE projects.

    • Ensure organization works within social justice and disability justice practices, understanding nuances of neuroaffirming approaches, spoon theory, and other best practices can be followed

    • Developing the framework of the organization’s programming capacity (fee structure, scheduling, partnerships, productions, workshops) to be fulfilled by the Artistic Director
       

  • Governance

    • Align operational plans with larger strategic goals set in collaboration with the board and artistic staff

    • Reporting on financial and operational activity as a liaison between staff and the board of directors;

    • Ensuring CRIPSiE remains in good standing with federal and provincial jurisdictions and the AGLC; and

    • Working with CRIPSiE staff and board of directors in the development and compliance of new organizational policies and processes. 

 

Qualifications

Skills that are required for this position:

  • A strong understanding of social justice and how it can be operationalized in community

  • Experience in project and/or operational grantwriting;

  • Knowledge of arts administration and non-profit practices.

 

Skills that are an asset, but can be developed within the role:

  • A strong understanding of disability justice and working with the pandisability community;

  • Experience in bookkeeping and budgeting;

  • Experience in overseeing and delivering events or workshop programming;

  • Understanding of reporting and governance procedures as they pertain to the Alberta Societies Act and Canadian charities.


 

Schedule and Details

This is a two-year part-time term contract with renewal to be discussed following the contract term. Hours of work may fluctuate between 20-60 hours per month depending on ongoing activity. 

 

Residency in Edmonton is an asset but not required. CRIPSiE activities and operations are based in Edmonton. The role is largely remote and work-from-home, though in-person attendance at CRIPSiE events is preferred.

 

The Executive Director will be paid $26,000/year in monthly installments estimated at 12-20hrs/week at $35/hr. CRIPSiE staff act as contractors and are responsible for income taxes and deductions as required.
