CRIPSiE (The Collaborative Radically Integrated Performers Society in Edmonton) is an Edmonton-based collective of artists that include people who experience disability and their allies. We challenge dominant stories of disability and other forms of oppression through high-quality crip and mad performance art, video art, as well as public education and outreach programs.

Sunday September 14th
Venue is the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre (8426 Gateway Boulevard)
Doors open at 930am
Free pancake breakfast begins at 10am.

Our action theatre workshops began two weeks ago, so here's a friendly reminder that you can come laugh away some of your election chaos Monday night. Emilia is someone new to CRIPSiE, although you may have seen her as an incredible rehearsal assistant over the past year. We are thrilled to tap into her skill sets and continue the amazing work that Ainsley has started.

Emilia is a performer who got her start doing basketball tricks at pre-game and halftime shows for organizations like the Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, and Harlem Globetrotters. Since then, she’s had her puppetry screened on public access television in Philadelphia, written some solo shows, co-founded Boston’s Fork & Shoe Theatre Coop, and learned how to play the trumpet.

Originally from Massachusetts and Wampanoag land, colonially known as Boston, Massachusetts, Emilia is a first-generation settler on Treaty 6 territory. She is a performer, puppeteer, Action Theatre practitioner, educator, trumpet player, and creator of two solo works: NAVIGATING DEATH ANXIETY: a how-to guide! & Eulogy for Jack Cole. Her filmed puppetry collaborations with the 13 Pratt Theatre Co were featured on Great Small Works’ International Toy Festival, and aired on public access television in Philadelphia and Belmont, Massachusetts. She is a proud founding member of the Fork & Shoe Theatre Cooperative and musical groups pUbeRtykiDs and The Goddamn Brass Band. Emilia is currently pursuing an MFA in Theatre Practice at the University of Alberta.

Bolly Wheels is a vibrant and inclusive initiative founded by Roneel Gounder after surviving a spinal cord injury. Determined to bring the energy and excitement of Bollywood dance to the disability community, Roneel reached out to choreographer Palak Sharma and his friend Bean Gill. Together, they created Bolly Wheels, a space where people of all abilities can express themselves, connect with others, and celebrate the joy of movement.

Through adaptive dance workshops, performances, and community events, Bolly Wheels empowers individuals to embrace their unique strengths and find freedom in motion. Join us as we dance, roll, and celebrate the rhythm of life together!

Do you know someone who would make a great contribution to CRIPSiE?

CRIPSiE is looking for a wide range of arts workers, dance artists, and arts supporters to contribute to our Board of Directors who have lived or learned experience with d/Disability or an interest in learning more about d/Disability arts work.

As CRIPSiE continues to grow in its capacity as an organization, we hope that other individuals invested in the future of the CRIPSiE will feel inspired to contribute their time by sitting on the board of directors.

Over a two-year term, new board members will assist with fundraising, membership recruitment, support the Artistic Leadership in their programming, and help steer the organization toward creating a strong d/Disability arts community in Edmonton.

Please let us know if you (or someone you know) would be interested in helping shape CRIPSiE as it moves forward by emailing board@cripsie.com. New board members will be voted in at our AGM in April of 2025.

We are thrilled to have a handful of All Bodies Dance Project facilitators join us online over the next few months! Harmanie Rose is back this Saturday!

Harmanie Rose is a disabled dance artist. Through her fifteen-plus years in dance, she has helped build iDance Edmonton (AB) (now known as CRIPSiE) aswell as working with All Bodies Dance Project (BC) since its inception in 2014. Harmanie has worked as a facilitator for All Bodies Dance Project, New Works, and National Access Arts Centre. She has collaborated on dance films, including Alice Sheppard’s Inclinations, Sanctuary with Rianne Svelnis and Martin Borden, and In Place, created with Kelsie Acton thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts digital shorts grant.

Harmanie’s residency with Dumb Instrument Dance at Morrow in October 2022, The Art of Falling, researched the creative potential of falling with disabled and non-disabled bodies. Through this and future research, Harmanie wants to create reciprocal relationships through dance that deepen our understanding of our bodies and connection to people and spaces.

Harmanie has worked as a facilitator for All Bodies Dance Project, New Works, and National Access Arts Centre. She has collaborated on dance films, including Alice Sheppard’s Inclinations, Sanctuary with Rianne Svelnis and Martin Borden, and In Place, created with Kelsie Acton thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts digital shorts grant.

Harmanie’s residency with Dumb Instrument Dance at Morrow in October 2022, The Art of Falling, researched the creative potential of falling with disabled and non-disabled bodies. Through this and future research, Harmanie wants to create reciprocal relationships through dance that deepen our understanding of our bodies and connection to people and spaces.

We are thrilled to have a handful of All Bodies Dance Project facilitators join us online over the next few months! This Saturday, we get to dance with Harmanie.

Harmanie Rose is a disabled dance artist. Through her fifteen-plus years in dance, she has helped build iDance Edmonton (AB) (now known as CRIPSiE) aswell as working with All Bodies Dance Project (BC) since its inception in 2014.
